While every season in in the Northwoods brings a special kind of magic, summer is hard to beat. A world away from oppressively hot urban jungles, St. Germain is a place where you can relax on a pristine Northwoods lake and savor the best of the season, whether you’re enjoying a trip north with family or friends, a getaway with someone special, or perhaps an escape on your own. While these warm and beautiful St. Germain days can pass too quickly, there’s no reason to head into the fall season just yet – there’s still plenty of time to enjoy everything you love about summer in St. Germain. 1. Hit the links
The summer golf season is still in full swing, and there’s a course waiting for you, whether your ideal day is spent on gorgeous a Northwoods fairways, or playing a shorter game with the family on a whimsical mini golf course.
The St. Germain Golf Club has been welcoming golfers for more than three decades. The signature hole is hole 5 – it’s framed by beautiful pines and it’s gorgeous! Wilderness Mini Golf & Par 3 is a fun destination for all ages and Elmer’s Fun Park also is home to go-karting, bumper boats and horseback riding.
2. Enjoy the lakes
Don’t miss out on another chance to enjoy a day on the water. The St. Germain area has some amazing lakes like Big Saint Germain lake, Little Saint Germain Lake, and the Rainbow Flowage, as well as many smaller lakes you might not have heard of. They all offer something special, whether you’re planning a day of pontooning, a morning paddle along the shoreline, or perhaps a day trying your luck in St. Germain’s famous fishing waters. Enjoy your time on the water – just don’t forget to bring some cool beverages and some sunscreen!
3. Explore the trails
Hiking and a biking can be even more enjoyable in the late summer. St. Germain has many miles of hiking and biking trails – some great bets are the Awassa Trail, Fern Ridge and Shannon Lake Trails. They all offer miles of gorgeous summer hiking. The Heart of Vilas Trail is a wonderful spot to head out for a bike ride – there are over 50 miles of trail to explore!
It never hurts to have some bug spray on hand when you’re heading into the forest, but you may not need it this time of year. By late summer, many of the mosquitoes have called it a season. The trails can also be much drier – spring snow melt is a distant memory, so you might be able to leave those waterproof boots at home too.
