If you don’t have a boat, there are many places in St. Germain that rent any kind you would want. If the rental stores are out, sometimes other resorts may have extra on hand to rent. Contact the Chamber of Commerce if you need help finding a boat to use.
Unlike some destinations, there are plenty of pet-friendly vacation options in the Northwoods. To find accommodations that will allow your pet, check for the red “pets allowed” icon in this guide or contact the St. Germain Chamber of Commerce. What’s better than having your four-legged companion with you on a wonderful vacation? (Yes, bring the kids too.)

Make sure all food is properly stored. Do not leave any food in or around your campsite. Bears rely on their sense of smell, so if they cannot smell your food they normally will not bother you.
St Germain is home to one of the Northwoods largest flea markets. On average over 1,000 people attend every Monday during the summer months. Get there early to plan your strategy! While many vendors have bags to carry your treasures in, it’s always better to bring your own bag/wagon. Plus it’s good for the environment. See our Events page for more info.
Wisconsin produces almost 5 million barrels of cranberries a year. That’s more than 60% of the nation’s crop, making Wisconsin the #1 cranberry producer in the United States for the 19th consecutive year.
The cranberry is Wisconsin’s official state fruit.
Cranberries do not grow in water. A perennial plant, cranberries grow on low running vines in sandy bogs and marshes.

Don’t want to try the sport by yourself? Contact the Chamber office to put you in touch with some of the best fishing guides in Vilas County. If you are considering this route, please plan ahead. Many of the guides are booked months in advance, especially during prime fishing times.
Winter in the north is generally a good season to view the northern lights. The long periods of darkness and the frequency of clear nights provide many good opportunities to watch these colorful displays. Usually the best time of night (on clear nights) to watch for auroral displays is local midnight.
The secret to filleting a fish is a sharp knife. You need a razor-sharp filleting knife, ideally eight or nine inches long, with a thin blade that has a little flexibility to it. Let the knife do all the work.
